Medvezhiegorsky Lespromkhoz is situated in one of the industrial centers of Karelia on the shore of Onega lake in 155 km from Petrozavodsk. Here there is a large transport nod of the North: a railroad Saint-Petersburg – Murmansk goes through Medvezhiegorsk, on the South-East there is a road connecting the region with Arkhangelsk and Vologda regions. Above all there is a modern port in the town.

Medvezhiegorsky Lespromkhoz deals with wood harvesting and sawmilling, timber and wood residues conversion as well as reforestation. At present time LPH has four logging plots in Medvezhiegorsk region with total rated cutting area 260 thous. m3. The enterprise has modern equipment. In 1999 it acquired logging equipment that permitted to increase wood harvesting one and a half times. Further it purchased sorting and sawing equipment with computer controlling permitting a reasonable wood cut.

For sawn-timber production a qualitative raw wood is used; it is distinguished by higher density in comparison to the one of southern regions of Russia. Medvezhiegorsky LHP outputs sawn-timber according to All-Union State Standard 26002-83, 8486-86 and supplies it to many EU countries, Eastern Europe and other regions of the globe.

Ecology and Certification

In 2009 Medvezhiegorsky Lespromkhoz got international FSC chain-of-custody certificate (SW-COC-00450) and controlled wood certificate (SW-CW-004503). According to acquired status lespromhoz guarantees to its clients that at sawn-timber production it uses only high quality and legal origin wood at harvesting of which forests biodiversity conservation measures are implemented. FSC certificate receipt gives a possibility to supply products to the global market in conditions of obstructing barriers for forest products export to USA and EU countries. FSC certificate is a recongnezed sign of ecology and social quality of forest products in more than 80 countries of the world.
