Investlesprom enterprises do not harvest at specially preserved territories of Karelia

Enterprises of “Investlesprom” holding and its contractors do not harvest at specially preserved natural territories (SPNT) of Karelia both existing and planned. This was told in the letter of chief of certification direction, JVC “Investlesprom”, Oleg Konushatov, to the management of local public organization (LPO) “SPOK” in connection with publication of forest leasers’ ecological responsibility ranking (over the republic).

Let’s remind that the ranking was made up by LPO “SPOK” on the basis of forest users-enterprises’ attitude towards conservation of prospective SPNT that are situated at the area leased by these enterprises. According to the ranking two enterprise of Investlesprom holding – LLC Medvezhiegorsky LPH and LLC Kostomukshsky LPH – turned out to be included into the list of leasers who have at their territory SPNTs and have not formed position of its conservation or who implement loggings at these territories. However, as Oleg Konushatov informed in his letter, at the territory of LLC Medvezh’egosrkii LPH’s lease loggings are made by the general contractor, forest management operator, LLC “SLZK” that has FSC-certificate “chain of custody” and “controlled wood” and at forest land leased by LLC Kostomukshskii LPH the only logger is the certified contractor, LLC “Swedwood-Karelia”. “In accordance with Responsible forest management and procurement Policies JVC “Investlesprom” and LLC SLZK as well as with FSC standards enterprises of the holding and contractors undertake to use only legal logging methods and to require from its suppliers forest products of legal origin: not to purchase illegally harvested wood, wood logged in forest with high conservational value …to detect and to support forests with high conservational values”, - underlined Oleg Konushatov. Besides that as it was remarked in the letter, at present time LLC Medvezhiegorsky LPH and LLC Kostomukshsky LPH are in the process of certification of forest management according to FSC scheme.
So this letter could be considered as an expression of the official position of these enterprises towards conservation of the planned reserved territory of the national park “Kaleval’skii” and SPNT “Zaonezhskii” both at its leased area. In addition three more forest land leasers act at SPNT “Zaonezhskii”; their position regarding the matter is unknown – LLC “Agrovodsnab”, LLC “Evrolesprom”, LLC “Pyal’msky sawmill”. And forest plots in the planned reserved territory of the national park “Kaleval’skii” are transferred to the lease of LLC “Karelfinles” and CJVC “Komileszagotprom” who have not identified their position yet as well.
