Open Joint-stock Company “Onezhskii LDK” is one of the oldest and largest saw-mill enterprises of Arkhangelsk region.
Among key directions of the enterprise’s activity there are sawmilling, woodworking, products delivery to Russian and foreign market.
Main sawn timber purchasers – France, Great Britain, Holland, Belgium, Germany, other countries of Europe. Pulp chips are exported to Finland.

OJSC “Onezhskii LDK” (sawmill and wood working mill) is situated in the north of Arkhangelsk region, at the coast of the White Sea, in the city of Onega. The mast forest of White Sea has been being exported even since Ivan Groznyi, and sawing works began on shore of Onega already in VIII century, when at Pon’ga and Anda rivers first saw mills working for export appeared.
 — 1911: a Norwegian Bake and a swede Vig built “Dal’nii” timber mill.
 — 1923–1928: concession «Rus’norvegoles».
 — 1928: State Onezhskii Sawmill.
JSC “Onezhskii LDK” was established by the Ordinance of the RF President “About organizational measures for state enterprises, voluntary unions of state enterprises transformation into joint-stock companies” dated 1 July 1992 #721. The company is an assignee of financial, economic and other rights and obligations of the state enterprise “Onezhskii LDK” of “Severo-les” concern.
On June, 10 1998 JSC of open type “Onezhskii LDK” was renamed into Open JSC “Onezhskii LDK”. About 1300 people work at the mill. The main kinds of products of Open JSC “Onezhskii LDK” are export sawn timber all-Union State Standard 26002–83.
 Cut sawn timber of softwood of northern assortment produced for export. It is produced from fir and pine timber, it is dried up to transport humidity (20-22%):
 — boards — length from 2,7 to 6,0 m, width from 100 to 225 mm, thickness from 19 to 75 mm;
 — deal ends — length from 1,5 to 2,4 m, width from 75 to 225 mm, thickness from 19 to 75 mm;
 — fillets — length from 2,7 to 6,0 m, width 75 mm, thickness from 19 to 75 mm.
From 1997 to mark the products produced for external market, JSC “Nauchdrevprom-TsNIIMOD” designed “ONEGA” sign for “Onezhskii LDK”. Under this mark the products of “Onezhskii LDK” is known in all countries where the mill has ever delivered and continues to deliver sawn timber.

In recent years OJSC “Onezhskii LDK” pays great attention to ecology and environmental issues. In 2003 ecology management system was introduced at the mill. As a result in April 2004 it got the certificate of international standard ISO 14001 (Ecology management system) that was approved in 2005 and that is owned by only a few Russian Wood Industry Complex enterprises. In 2006 the mill after successful personnel training went through certification under the new version of standard. WWF (World Wildlife Fund) in 2003 we got the mark “The most ecological company in its complex”, the same year  “Expert-RA” rating agency awarded the highest rating among enterprises of Russian Wood Industry Complex — “eco A+” — that implies a high level of ecological responsibility and says about insignificant ecology risks. This rating was being confirmed during all following years and at present the rating of such level is owned only by three enterprises of Wood complex in Russia. From the point of view that state policy principles in wastes treatment field are “usage of economic regulation methods of activity in the field of wastes treatment for the purpose of wastes quantity reduction and its involvement into economic turnover”, at the enterprise there was developed an ecological program for wood residues utilization. According to this program in 2004 and 2005 respectively mazut boiler was demounted; the second and third boilers (working at wood residues) were installed and put into production. In 2006 within the framework of Kyoto protocol Onezhskii LDK took part in the construction of city boiler that is successfully operating at present time. Now these boilers must utilize all wood residues generated anew. Since among all natural resources used by the mill the most important is forest (sawn timber), the mill accepted sustainable forest management policy. Voluntary forest certification under FSC system is one of the most efficient approaches towards sustainable forest management ensuring that implies such forest management and forest resources exploitation character that let not only to maintain forest productivity in an inexhaustible way but also their most valuable ecological functions - their biodiversity. Following this, Onezhskii LDK, one of the first in Russia, proceeded to forest certification. The first certificate of sustainable forest management and exploitation according to FSC scheme was received on June 3, 2003 by one of timber enterprises being a part of OJSC “Onezhskii LDK” Group, at that time the second in Russia among timber enterprises. In April 2005 one more timber industry enterprise got FSC certificate, and in December 2005 four more enterprises at once as well as managing company OJSC “PLO “Onegales” got certificates FSC FM/COC. This was the first group certification under renovated FSC standards in Russia. Now all timber enterprises of Onezhskii LDK wood complex have certificates. In October 2005 OJSC “Onezhskii LDK” got FSC-certificate for “raw materials delivery chain” from timber man to consumer (chain-of-custody). At international conference held in December 2005 in Arkhangelsk “High Conservational Value Forests: from global concept to regional systems of forest management” Russian FSC office head Ptichnikov A.V. marked that Onezhskii LDK is the leader of certification in Russia. At that time Onezhskii LDK’s certified forests area constituted more that 20% of all certified forest in Russia. Now the mill offers and delivers to its customers the products certified according to two international ecology standards – FSC and ISO 14001.
