WWF of Russia accepted Joint
position of”round table” discussion participants concerning issues of sustainable forest management legislative support. WWF calls on timber merchants and ecologists to join it
The case in point is the “round table” discussion held on October, 6 in Saint-Petersburg under the aegis of WWF of Russia. This meeting confirmed once again that the largest timber enterprises (Ilim Group, JSC “Mondi Syktyvkarsk LPK”, JSC “Investlesprom” and others) and ecological NPOs (research-and-production associations) have a common viewpoint at many questions and are ready to work at improvement of legislation in the field of forest use. It is reflected in the documents (Resolution and Joint position), adopted by the results of “round table” discussion.
“Joint position of ecological NPOs and forest business concerning legislation improvement in the field of ecologically sustainable forest management confirms the coincidence of long-term interests of business and society regarding Russian nature conservation, general concern about modern situation in forests and evident weakness of existing legislation for that issue,— tells Tatyana Yanitskaya, High conservational Value forests Coordinator, WWF of Russia.— “Round table” discussion participants agreed to develop the cooperation in this direction – in particular, they invite other NPOs and forest business representatives to join this position”.
